Best Pool Paving Options for your Northern Beaches Coastal Home
Living on Sydney’s Northern Beaches comes with plenty of perks. Beautiful beaches, a relaxed coastal lifestyle and plenty of time spent outdoors. But when it comes to pool areas, the coastal conditions can be tough on paving.
Salt air, strong summer sun, pool chemicals and regular exposure to water can all take their toll. That’s why choosing the right pool paving isn’t just about finding something that looks good. You want paving that is safe around the pool, comfortable underfoot and able to handle the Northern Beaches climate for years to come.
At About Paving, we’ve worked on plenty of paving projects across the Northern Beaches and know how important proper material selection and installation are for coastal homes.
Choosing the right pool paving for Northern Beaches homes
Travertine pavers are a popular choice for pool areas in Manly, Dee Why, Narrabeen, Mona Vale and Palm Beach. They have a timeless natural appearance and tend to stay relatively cool underfoot during Sydney’s hot summer days. Their naturally textured surface can also provide good grip around wet pool areas. For Northern Beaches paving projects, we recommend choosing a quality, high density travertine suitable for outdoor coastal conditions.
Granite pavers are another option when durability is a priority. Granite is extremely strong and dense, making it resistant to scratching, chipping and salt exposure. A textured finish, such as flamed or exfoliated granite, can provide good slip resistance while remaining comfortable to walk on.
Limestone pavers can give a pool area a softer, contemporary coastal feel. Their natural earthy colours work particularly well with modern Northern Beaches homes. When selecting limestone for pool paving, it’s important to choose a dense, low porosity product suitable for outdoor and salt water environments.
Porcelain pavers are also becoming increasingly popular for paving in the Northern Beaches. Quality outdoor porcelain is highly water resistant and requires very little maintenance. It is resistant to staining, mould, UV fading and many of the issues associated with salt and chlorine. Porcelain also provides a clean, modern finish without the need for regular sealing.
Good paving starts underneath
The paving material is only part of the job. Proper preparation underneath your pool area is just as important.
Northern Beaches properties can have sandy soils or reactive clay. Simply laying pavers over a sand bed can eventually result in movement, sinking and uneven surfaces.
For a long lasting paving installation, the base needs to be properly prepared. Depending on the site, this can include an engineered concrete base, correct falls for water runoff, suitable expansion joints and effective drainage. Concealed strip drains can also help direct water away from the pool and house.
Professional Northern Beaches paving makes a difference
Pool coping and edge details also need careful attention. Drop face and bullnose profiles can create a safer, more comfortable pool edge while giving the finished paving a clean appearance.
When you’re looking for paving services in the Northern Beaches, experience matters. Good paving contractors understand that coastal properties require careful planning, quality materials and attention to drainage and preparation.
From pool paving in Manly and Dee Why to paving projects around Mona Vale, Newport and Palm Beach, getting the installation right from the beginning can make a big difference to the finished result.
If you’re planning a new pool area, renovating an existing pool or simply replacing tired paving, we’re happy to help you choose the right paving solution for your Northern Beaches home.
